Virginia State Cup/USFF Region I Championships/National Championships
The Virginia Futsal® Association, through it's member leagues and clubs offers a unique opportunity, the opportunity to represent Virginia in the USFF Region I Championships and to join the growing list of Virginia teams to advance to play for the National Championship title in their age group. Next summer the USFF National Championships are across from DisneyLand in California in mid-July, 2004. In the past two years 8 of the 14 teams that represented Virginia in the USFF Region 1 Championships finished in the final Four in their age divisions in Region 1. Four of these teams advanced to play for National Championships Titles.
In 2002, the Vienna Cougars from the Washington Area Futsal® League, played for the National Championship in their age group. In 2003, the Chantilly Purple Blast from the Washington Area Futsal® League, finished in the National Final Four in their age group. In both 2002 and 2003 Washington Area Futsal League referees were invited to do games at the USFF National Championships.
2004 State Cup Location and Dates - The 2004 Virginia Futsal® State Cup is being hosted in Loudoun County, Virginia the weekend of January 9, 10 and 11, 2004. The registration deadline for the 2004 Virginia Futsal® State Cup is December 15, 2003. The registration deadline for the USFF Region I Championships is January 15, 2004.
2004 State Cup Tournament Format - The Virginia Futsal® State Cup has always had enough court time to host State Cup as a tournament event with a guaranteed minimum of three 25 minute games, with the two teams that finish highest advancing to a a 40 minute championship game. In the past all teams that have applied have been accepted.
The 2004 State Cup Tournament is limited by the amount of available official Futsal® marked court space to 168 total teams. If more than 168 teams apply, the postmark on the envelope or date and time a form is delivered to the USFF State Registrar will be used to determine the order in which teams have applied. Acceptance will be on a first come, first serve basis. If more than 168 teams apply the first cut will be divisions with more than 8 teams. The first 8 teams will be accepted. Teams over 8 will be placed on a wait list. The committee reserves the right to keep any division with fewer than four teams open after the registration deadline, until such time as that division can be filled.
If more than 168 teams apply, the cup format for the winter of 2004-2005 will be modified to be an elimination tournament more consistent with the format used by USYSA and it's state associations. Information on this change will be posted in August, 2004 after VFA votes on proposed changes to handle a greater number of teams that want to play state cup.
